Gamble Responsibly! - We Are Not Kidding Around!

With gambling options growing around the world, it is important that everyone who decides to partake in the leisure activity of gambling be aware that it can become dangerous. If not properly educated, even the most casual of gamblers could eventually develop a gambling problem.

As gambling has grown, so to has research into problem gambling. There are many signs that can be detected when dealing with problem gambling, and also many steps that can be taken to prevent a gambling addiction. Here are some tips from the Responsible Gambling Council with explanations from our gambling research team that can help ensure that a person gambles responsibly.

1. Don't think of gambling as a way to make money-gambling is for entertainment purposes only. It is not a wise practice to go to a casino or gamble online to try and make up for financial shortcomings.

2. Always gamble with money you can lose-if it makes you struggle until the next paycheck, it is not money you can afford to lose. Look at gambling as you would the movies or a night out to dinner, something that is fun when you can afford it.

3. Set a money limit-do not go into a casino with the idea that no matter what you lose, there is more in the bank to pull out. Set a limit and stick to it.

4. Set a time limit-a couple of hours out with friends is OK, a couple of days straight at a casino is not.

5. Never chase losses-do not ever get to the point where you think your luck is going to change. Many gamblers believe after a couple of hours of losing, they are "due" to win. Nothing could be farther than the truth. If it's not your night, it's not your night. Period.

6. Don't gamble when you are depressed or upset-again this is similar to number five. If you are down on your luck in your personal life, that DOES NOT mean that your luck is about to change. Often upset gamblers lose more than they should because of a feeling that it can't get much worse.

7. Balance gambling with other activities-do not make gambling your only form of entertainment. Make sure there is a balance between a night out at the casino and a night out to dinner with friends. Do not let the casino urge overpower your decision making process when deciding on what to do for the evening.
