Officials from the World Series of Poker are considering backing the final table for the Main Event up to the following March. The officials are pleased that poker fans have waited for the final table until November the past couple of years, and the WSOP believes they can push the envelope even further.

"There are a lot of advantages to backing the final table up another four months," said a WSOP official who wished to remain anonymous. "Poker fans are kind of like dogs, and we already have them waiting until November, so we might as well try to further train the fans to be patient and wait for our product."

Among those that are not thrilled with the idea is Doyle Brunson. Those who have seen Brunson lately believe that he and other elder statesman players are afraid that if they make the final table next year, they may not live to play in the event come the following March.

The younger players are also against the idea of a further delay, although for different reasons. Young players have become accustomed to receiving large amounts of money playing in poker tournaments, and some do not believe they should have to wait for the good times to roll.

"If I make it to the final table, I'd rather play the same week as the rest of the tournament," said amateur player Mark Braddow. "I mean, if I win, I want my money this way I can get on with living the poker lifestyle of staying out late, drinking and doing drugs, and bringing prostitutes back to the hotel rooms at night."

The delay until November gives ESPN time to air the rest of the WSOP highlights and build up to the main event final table. Asked whether ESPN would be on board with such a move to March, the WSOP official said, "They are on board just as long as we have a live one hour special to announce the move to March."
