Hungary Not Hungry! Apparently Hard Rock International officials believed they were doing charity work when they met with their new business partners. Hard Rock thought they were sending food to another country because there were people that were hungry. Turns out, the papers they signed were for them to build a new casino hotel in Hungary.
"We went to this meeting because we were told Hungarian people were hungry," said CEO Bill Tedd, "what we found out after we signed the deal was that they meant they were hungry for casino gambling."
The Hard Rock must now build a new casino resort in Hungary that has to be up and running by 2012. Part of the paperwork that was signed indicated that if the company does not comply, all guitars from their other properties would become property of the Hungarian government.
"This is not a good deal for us," said Tedd, "We only get to keep one third of our profits, and if we renege on the deal at all they get pretty much whatever they want from our other casinos and hotels. We were duped."
Hungary, to hold up their end of the deal, only has to exist. If no wars break out, and the country does not get taken over, Hard Rock would be bound by the agreement they signed on Friday.
