Pick A Number MGM Mirage is in the process of building their City Center project in Las Vegas, and keeping in the spirit of gambling, the company has said they will now begin accepting wagers on the construction process.
MGM Mirage needs money, a whole sh*t load of money if one is to believe the price of the City Center project. The company has decided the best way to accumulate the money is to say "F*ck You" to lenders, and try to raise the money to complete the project on their own.
That is why this week, MGM announced that they will begin taking bets at the actual construction site of the City Center. Among the games that can be played are roulette, craps, and blackjack. Of course, they are a far cry from the games the casino will have once completed.
The version of roulette that is being played involves a tennis ball that is placed in a bulldozer arm. The arm is then raised, and instead of dumping sand, the arm dumps the tennis ball onto a court with square boxes etched out. If the player chooses the correct number the ball will land on, they win.
This game is expected be popular and estimates from MGM range in the $100 to $250 million range that the game will generate on a monthly basis. The roulette alone will not pay for this mega-project, so MGM has also decided to create Construction Craps.
The craps game will be played at one of the structures that is already somewhat complete. Players will travel up to the top of the thirty story building and drop a pair of dice. The foreman will then use a mega-phone to yell up to the player and let them know if they have won. This game also should generate in the $200 million a month range.
The most popular of the games much like inside the casino is blackjack. This is where the stress of the economy and the CityCenter project may have gotten to the company. Players throw a deck of cards up in the air, into the wind, and catch two cards on their way down.
If the players two cards beats any combination of three cards the dealer catches, the player wins. If not, the City Center moves closer to getting bathrooms for future customers.
The plan has been met with some cynicism from other Las Vegas based companies who have quickly bought property in case the idea takes off. Las Vegas Sands said that if MGM looks to be making money, they will immediately begin three construction casinos in the next few months.
