NFL Loses A judge this afternoon ruled against the NFL in the Delaware sports betting case. The NFL was shocked at the ruling, claiming that they thought they were the law, and that what they said goes.
The judge ruled against a temporary restraining order that the NFL had wanted. It would have stopped sports betting in Delaware until the case was heard, but the judge could not wait until December to place his first bet.
"Due to the fact that the NFL season begins in September, and the trial for this case will not begin until December, Judge Sleet decided that three months without NFL gambling would be too long for him to wait," said spokesman Gary Breckel, "therefore, he ruled against the NFL, and has asked Delaware for the direct number to their sports books."
The ruling was a slap in the face to the NFL, who, for a couple of years now, actually believed they WERE the law. They have dished out punishment after punishment to their players, and now they have received the same lack of sympathy from Judge Sleet as they have given these players.
When asked if they would appeal, a league spokesman claimed that they are the NFL, they don't have to appeal. The spokesman was then pushed on what he meant, and he said, "We do what we want, when we want, and if they (Delaware) think that they are going to disobey are wishes, then just maybe someone will end up swimming with the fishes."
Delaware Governor Jack Markell was thankful for the ruling, and gave the judge an incentive to do his betting in Delaware. The governor did not reveal what that incentive was, but rumor has it that he offered the judge no juice on any of his sports bets for an entire year.
