Candy Bar Kills Gambling Compact
If the Seminole Indians want to get the gambling compact that they so desperately are searching for in Florida, it may cost them more than money. Florida lawmakers are looking to clean the Seminoles out in exchange for the right to offer gambling.

Some of the requests of House leaders in Florida are a bit out of the ordinary. One lawmaker asked that his son receive season tickets to the Florida State home football games. Of course, he did not realize that the Seminole tribe did not own Florida State.

Another legislator wanted a home cooked Indian meal every night for one full year. The third, and most unusual request came from a long time lawmaker. He wanted the Seminoles to guarantee that he would hit at least one jackpot a month for a ten year period.

"If we are going to give the Seminoles the right to offer expanded gambling, then like all good politicians, we must ensure that we get something out of the deal personally," said a legislator that wished to remain anonymous.

The Seminoles and the state have been negotiating a compact that would give the Seminoles the right to offer blackjack and baccarat since 2007. Governor Crist has twice successfully completed compacts, only to be turned away by lawmakers.

The first compact was denied back in 2008 because legislators felt that Crist overstepped his authority while negotiating. The rumor is that top Seminole officials bought Crist a Snickers bar, but they did not send any back to Tallahassee for the lawmakers.

The second compact was finished off in 2009, but lawmakers immediately shot that agreement down when the Seminoles could not produce Santa Claus for the state government holiday party in December.
